Literacy
Our Educational Consultant uses the Orton-Gillingham approach. Orton-Gillingham is a highly structured approach that breaks reading and spelling down into smaller skills involving letters and sounds, and then building on these skills over time. It was the first approach to use explicit, direct, sequential, systematic, multi-sensory instruction to teach reading, which is not only effective for all students but essential for teaching students with dyslexia.

Social Thinking:
A word from our educational consultant;
Hi there, I’m Patty!
Patty comes to Kudos Therapy Center as a Special Education teacher and administrator with over forty years of experience in the field. She has a Bachelor and Masters degree in the area of Exceptional Children and is licensed as an administrator in the state of Washington. Patty is trained in Orton Gillingham methodology in teaching reading to students. This methodology based in the Science of Reading impacts all five pillars of literacy which assists students in making gains in the reading process.
Patty is passionate about teaching literacy, writing and social emotional skills to students struggling in these areas. Patty enjoys assisting older students in preparing for life after high school. She believes that positive outcomes will occur for those students and families taking a role in planning for the future. As students and families move forward in future planning, Patty will act as a guide so that students can identify their strengths in learning and understand areas of growth. Patty will collaborate with students to find the relationship in their strengths in learning to graduate from high school; alignment to finding the appropriate employment pathway; and ultimately, if appropriate, finding a school of higher education to attend that is a match for the student’s career pathway and interest area.
